NL/AL Batting titles? Eerie stats

Postby Stand Pat » Tue Jun 01, 2004 8:24 am

If batting titles were given out at the all star break, Sean Casey and Melvin Mora could definitely claim the NL and AL batting titles. Check out the eerie similarity in their stats:

Casey H/AB: 76/193, R: 40, HR: 9, RBI: 40, SB: 1, AVG:.394, OPS 1.081

Mora H/AB: 73/190, R: 46, HR:10, RBI: 36, SB: 7, AVG:.384, OPS 1.082

I wonder if they can keep it up. They both put up respectable numbers during their playtime last year.

Wow, that similarity is pretty unbelievable. I don't see why they can't keep it up. Casey always looked like he had a batting title in him, and Mueller won the AL crown last year, so why not Mora?

Remember, until Mora hurt himself last year, he was leading the AL in hitting.

I would LOVE to see Casey threaten .400 this year.

The funny thing is that if Bonds were still batting .394, the entire world would know about it. Unfortunately, outside of true baseball fans, nobody even knows about these two guys because everyone just expects them to fall off. ;-)

Gonna be tough for Mora to stay hot enough to outhit Manny in the AL. Should be fun to watch.
