THAT RANDY JOHNSON TRADE AGAIN

Postby MHERSH » Tue Jun 25, 2002 7:09 am

HE'S UP TO THIS NOW AFTER I REJECTED THE OTHER DEAL:

ASTACIO, VAZQUEZ, GILES, DAMON, BARRETT FOR CARLOS LEE, POSADA, BIGGIO, JOHNSON, MESA. WHAT DO YOU THINK NOW? SO FAR I COUNTERED WITH ISHII, ASTACIO, GILES, DAMON, BARRETT FOR THE SAME GUYS.

So the original deal was modified to replace Ishii with Astacio, and to give you Mesa and Lee as well? Mesa is a nice addition, and the counteroffer you made looks pretty good for you.

What was your league format again? Johnson's value, in particular, depends quite a bit on the scoring you use.

WE PLAY IN A 5X5 LEAGUE. MY OTHER STARTERS ARE MUSSINA, HUDSON, PINEIRO. MY ERA AND WHIP IS TOO HIGH. ISHII CONTRIBUTES TO THAT, ESPECIALLY IN WHIP. I TOOK A GAMBLE ON SAARLOOS LAST WEEK AND GOT KILLED.

Bad luck with Sarloos - young guys with his assortment of pitches often struggle at first. I wouldn't recommend him for this year, but he's someone to keep an eye on for next year.

The trade is still a very tough call. If you can replace one of your starters with Ishii, as you're trying to do, I'd have no reservations; the same holds true if you can downgrade one of the of's you'd be giving up. As it stands, it's very tough, and probably hinges on whether you either need Mesa yourself or can turn around and deal him for an outfielder. If either is the case, then the deal should work for you, but try to negotiate a bit more anyway.

Good luck! It's not every day that you have the chance to trade for the Big Unit...
