Hurdle says Chacon is still the closer. It just amazes me when people absolutely refuse to admit an error despite all evidence. Obviously, that's the only reason Chacon is still closing as he has been horrible. Hurdle's latest comment was some nonsense that basically said they're not going to take job away from Chacon based on two bad efforts.
Evidently what we're seeing here is proof that Clint Hurdle has been undergoing an out of body experience of sorts and has not actually been on this planet for the past two months. Otherwise, he could not be this stupid. Jeez, the guy's ERA is about to jump off the charts and you don't get numbers that awful from two bad efforts.
Fuentes should have had first shot at the job this spring, should have taken it over by now and should have it till he proves he can't do it.
The reality is that I'm pretty sure Hurdle is one of those nitwits who remains convinced that lefties don't make good closers (a theory that is not all that unusual) and are more useful as situational relievers. This is a moronic belief. Yes, some lefties are only truly effective in spots vs. lefty hitters. But Fuentes generally starts innings anyway, so that blows away that theory as far as he goes.
I don't know if Fuentes gets a shot or not. I kind of feel he won't, as Chacon will do just enough to be Rocky Biddle west and will keep the job. Hope I'm wrong.
