Rumor: Beltran to Philly

Postby Tavish » Sat May 29, 2004 11:57 pm

I really didn't think I would ever post a trade rumor, but hell I like this one and the Beltran clock is ticking.

Kansas City center fielder Carlos Beltran to Philadelphia for center fielder Marlon Byrd and top pitching prospect Gavin Floyd.

Small blurb source toward the end of the page.

While I have almost no faith in rumors that just seem to pop-up out of nowhere, this is one of the more logical ones I have seen. Any Philly fans heard these types of rumblings?

This would help both teams. Beltran would make Philly's offense even scarier and KC would get two good prospects.

comin from philly while beltran would be a great addition, floyd is a cornerstone for the future and if the phillies have any feeling they can not sign beltran long term they would NEVER do this deal, and even if they could it will still take ed wade weeks to ponder, i highly doubt it goes down.

Chances are that the Royals will milk as much time out of Beltran as possible, I don't see any chance they make any trade before July unless it was just a silly offer.

I doubt if the Royals make any moves untill they know that they will be out of the race (late june, mid july)

Oh I see you haven't watched many KC games this year. ;-)

They're plenty out of it.

I think you forgot what division they play in. ;-D
They have looked like absolute garbage and they still are not out of it. Pretty sad.

it works both ways I would think. The longer that KC waits to trade him the less he will fetch.
1) he will have less time to play for his new team
2) KC will be known to be desperate to unload Beltran to get ANYTHING in return
3) continual uncertainty about the ability to sign him.
Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll drown because you forgot to teach him to swim.

My mouth says that Oakland will sneak in there and pick him up for the second half of the year if they are in the running still before the deadline. Of course I don't see Oakland actually signing him afterwards but for 1/2 a season, they could get alot out of him.
