Padilla place on 15 day DL

Postby GSes » Sat May 29, 2004 10:37 pm

Padilla pulled himself after 5IP today with tendinitis in his elbow.

Who will take the rotation spot?

Could it be Madson, everyone knoes this kid is going to be fantasy gold if he closes or starts.

I wouldn't go that far....actually, it seems that he is coming down to earth a the month of April, batters only hit .162 against him, but in May they are hitting .243....and in the past 7 days, he has a 4.91 ERA while hitters hit .412 against him. He will be a qualitly middle reliever this year, but I don't see him being in the same category with Lidge. !+)

Does madson replace Padilla in the rotation or does he stay in the pen?

I definitely like to see him get a chance to start. I wouldn't put too much stock in the BA against, doesn't really mean much over a short period of time. And the 4.91 ERA in the last 7 days is really just 3.1 IP and one bad outing.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

i wouldnt think madsen would be used for this start because the phillies need him in relief, and starting him would cause them to lose him for 4-5 days (2-3 before and 2-3 after) and the way the rest of the bullpen has thrown recently they cant afford that. As a scouting report goes, Madsen's changeup is unbelievable, argubely a top 10 changeup in the game currently, the pitch just falls off the table and hes got incredible arm speed on it. If the kid can just learn to spot his fastball a LITTLE better, he will become a stud, however before that happens he may struggle his 2nd time around, as most do.
