Nomar Garciaparra will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Pawtucket tomorrow.
It finally appears that Nomar's return is near. The plan is for him to play two games for Pawtucket, then return to Boston on Tuesday to work with a therapist for a couple of days. He'll probably rejoin Pawtucket on Thursday for a couple of more games, but it wouldn't be a complete surprise to see him in the Boston lineup instead. May. 29 - 5:36 pm et

Boston Red Sox shortstop Nomar Garciaparra, who hasn't played all season because of a sore Achilles tendon, is to begin a rehabilitation assignment in Triple-A on Sunday. Garciaparra plans to play two games with Pawtucket at Louisville, then return to Boston to work with a therapist for a couple of days. He is expected to rejoin the farm team in Toledo after an off-day on Wednesday. Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Garciaparra will play four or five innings and bat leadoff, to maximize his at-bats.
