You know, from a managing perspective, I'm not sure leaving Bacsik in to fry in the 7th was such a great idea... :-o

The Mets have the worst OF defense I have ever seen. If they can't improve their defense, there's no way they'll win the NL East.

The 2003 Mets looked a lot like the 2002 Mets on Opening Day. Bad defense and no offense. Throw in a poor pitching start, and bam, they get hammered.

In the immortal words of Bill "Spaceman" Lee,

"A few million years from now the sun will burn out and lose its gravitational pull. The earth will turn into a giant snowball and be hurled through space. When that happens it won't matter if I get this guy out."

Now substitute "we lost this game" for " I get this guy out" and you have my exact feelings.

One game does not a season make.

I wonder what Glavine must be thinking right now. You know he was never booed off the mound in Atlanta.

I think the mets offense and pitching will come along. They have a pretty good team there. Good hitters don't generally take off two seasons in a row, which means a lot of those guys are due to start hitting again. But that defense is not getting any better. The only hope is to score enough runs and strike enough guys out to win some games.

I still think the Mets can finish second in the division. But I don't see them beating Philly with a defense *that* bad.

I think that you hit their problem on the head- they aren't going to strike guys out. They've got a bunch of soft-tossers that depend on good defense, which is clearly not there. Honestly, though, I'll be okay if Philly wins it - at least it's not the Braves. Living in Atlanta the last few years has been eye-gougingly bad.

Very intresting how things can change. This time last year and thruout the year Glavine was horriable. This year he is off to a good start and loved by the fans of the Mets. How long will that last?

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

In Atlanta he usually pitched very well, and if he didn't, the Braves offense ususally picked him up. Now in NY, things seem to be a little different. When Glavine is horrible, so is the rest of the team.
