Looking for Advice.........

Postby highlander1168 » Mon Mar 31, 2003 4:42 pm

Just did my draft for a very competitive 10 team mixed league 6x5 league. Stats are: BA, D+T, HR, R, RBI and SB for offense. Pitching is ERA, K-W, S, W-L, and WHIP. No reserves or bench. My roster is:

Piazza, Mike C
Sexson, Richie 1B
Durham, Ray 2B
Alfonzo, Edgardo 3B
Renteria, Edgar SS
Rivas, Luis MI
Beltre, Adrian CI
Erstad, Darin OF
Jones, Chipper OF
Jones, Jacque OF
Ordonez, Magglio OF
Patterson, Corey OF
Marrero, Eli DH (also my backup OF & C)
Dessens, Elmer SP
Maddux, Greg SP
Ortiz, Ramon SP
Ortiz, Russ SP
Sheets, Ben SP
Washburn, Jarrod SP
Foulke, Keith RP
Koch, Billy RP
Stewart, Scott E. RP

See any major weaknesses or just any good advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance..........

Maybe there simply isn't all that much advice to offer at the moment: this is simply a rock-solid team. Sure there are a couple weak spots, like Rivas, but those are fairly minor. Marrero's versatility is nice, but I'm not sure I'd want him as a dh. Tough call. I'd also keep a close eye on Stewart. if he falters, you'll need a replacement. Otherwise, things look good. If your starting pitching comes through, you'll be in good shape.

I don't like Sexson at 1B,

does that help? :-)

Thanks Arlo.........i thought about making marrero my catcher, where i think he's top 5, and piazza my dh, but then again i get stats for both so it don't matter. besides, i can use marrero in OF in case of injuries. I guess my main concern was my SP. Not exactly loaded with K kings, and some question marks in Sheets and Dessens. Thanks for the input.

Agreed, Sheets and Dessens struck me as question marks, but if one of them comes through for you, you should be fine. It seems to me that the more evenly distributed the talent in your league is, the better off you'll be. If there are several minnows along with a true shark or two, your pitching might not be enough.

At any rate, the foundation you built in the draft is solid; now all you need is a few good in-season moves. :-)
