Larry Gowell-New York Yankees-The last American League pitcher to get a hit before the adoption of the Designated Hitter Rule (October 4, 1972 – a third inning double off Brewers right-hander Jim Lonborg).

Man it makes me want to know why he only played one season, or for that matter, only 2 games.
