First Fantasy Team

Postby PirateFan » Mon Mar 31, 2003 3:27 am

I am a avid baseball fan but have never played fantasy baseball. This year i am taking part in a 10 team, 5x5, H2H league. When i drafted i was unsure how the scoring worked so i drafted as if i were actually fielding a team. Here is my team if anyone could point out any weaknesses or make any sugestions i would appreciate it.

C - Pierzynski
1B - Helton
2B - Vidro
3B - Pujols
SS - Renteria
OF - Abreu
OF - A. Jones
OF - Finley
Util - Ibanez
Bench - Bellhorn
Bench - O. Cabrera

SP - D. Lowe
SP - M. Morris
RP - J. Jimenez
RP - Smoltz
P - Dotel
P - S. Williamson
P - A. Rhodes
Bench - L. Carter
Bench - M. Hampton
Bench - T. Lilly

I think that pitching may be a concern and have noticed that T. Ohka, and M. DeJean are both free agents but i am unsure on making any moves. Thanks for any sugestions!

Ohka for Lilly would be a good move, maybe you should also consider dropping Hampton for a pitcher that's off to a hot start, but you have at least another week to judge that.

Dotel won't get you wins or saves but good ERA, WHIP and K's.

If someone needs a SS (look who has Jeter!) you could trade Bellhorn or better Cabrera for more power, or consider getting another "hot" outfielder

you have a nice team.
pitching is a little shaky.
look at haracio rameriez, he pitches for the braves.
had a nice outing last night with 5 k and only 2 er over 6 innings.
if he had help from his club he would have gotten a win.

Your offense is great and you RP is good. The problem is your SP. I would always start Lowe and Morris. Since this is H2H you could pick up 2 spot starters in place of Hampton and Lily everyday. You will easily take wins and K's. Plus with you hitting and RP you should be able to win at least 4 cats to get the win.
