I'm about to complete a trade with someone who has been slobbering over Prior since day 1.
I get: Mike Mussina and Nomar
He gets: Prior, Padilla, and Dave Roberts
I think he under values Mussina plus this trade will give me 3 of the top 5 shortstops for trade bait. I also allready have a pretty deep rotation. Am I milking Prior for all he's worth or is this not quite as good as I think?
Here's my roster now:
8 team H2H league
Batters:
c - piazza
1b - helton
2b - bret boone
3b - glaus
ss - rollins
of - andruw jones, jaun gone, beltran, pujols
util - thome
util - tejada
bench - aramis ramirez
bench - dave roberts
dl - manny, nevin
Pitchers:
sp - schilling, pedro, zito, glavine, prior, padilla
rp - hoffman, nen, mesa
bench - ramon ortiz, eric milton, wade miller
Looks like a tremendous deal for you. I don't know how desperate this owner is to acquire Prior, but that's well over what I would have expected his trade value ceiling to be. Take this trade and run like the wind - this is great, especially since you need to make room on your roster soon anyway.
Frankly, I'd like this deal even in a keeper league, which I take it this isn't?
He want to do Mussina straight up for Prior. Is there any reason not to do this? (Will Moose pick things up? Will Prior become a superstar by this year?)
Well, it's a huge downgrade from the original deal. If k's don't count, Mussina will have quite a bit more value than Prior, but if they do, it could be close. You'll have to calculate this based on your scoring system; in most h2h leagues, however, Mussina's wins should make him the better choice.
If the initial offer was made by the other side, however, you should make a counteroffer before accepting this; something like Prior/Rollins/Padilla for Mussina/Nomar, perhaps...
Yes, k's do count. I think I will counter offer. I wanted to counter with that trade but I don't want to lose Rollin's steals. Without him my only basestealer is Beltran.
