I haven't dropped any categories before, but this year I have been trailing beyond pretty far in steals in my roto 5 x 5 league. Right now I only have 10 steals while the guy right above me in steals has 29. Everyone else is in the low to mid 30s except for the leader, who has 55. I've already tried to pick up some speed and trade for some such as Sanchez, Suzuki, and Baldelli, but no one's biting and everyone's asking a lot for steals. I could probably get a very good deal on Beltran (who may be traded to the NL anyway).

dont lose hope... punting steals is usually not a good idea in a 5x5 roto... just trade for one or two speedy guys even if you get a lil weaker in other cats just so that you can at least you can salvage some points with steals...
[size=10]Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)

I've tried to get a lot of the speedier guys already, but the asking prices have been ridiculous for the most part. I'm not giving up Sheffield for Sanchez or Mussina for Crawford.

I agree, try Sheff for Crawford. Dont get rid of Beltran...first of all, without him, you would be at no steals, and secondly, he is too much of an all around fantasy player. Too many positives to rid your team of.

Never punt a catagory in roto ball. It just doesn't work. There are fairy tales out there about winning roto while punting a catagory, but they are usually public Yahoo leagues with at least half the league being dead teams.
Bite the bullet and make the best trade you can to get some steals. Next year, remember this while drafting.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

ure right in not giving up Sheff for Sanchez but i also would give up Mussina for Crawford easily.... ure underestimating how much those steals would help you, and its not just those steals either... your pitching would be weaker but you have to take that hit. after that maybe you could deal either Millar, Ortiz, etc. to shore up your picthing.
