Memo to Tosca: Give Frasor a chance

Postby trac02 » Tue May 25, 2004 6:37 am

Check out Tosca's infuriating statement in today's papers (infuriating that is for Frasor owners and Jays fans):

But manager Carlos Tosca remains reluctant to anoint Frasor Toronto's closer, despite the fact the rookie has allowed just two earned runs in 17 appearances this season.

"We're just going to go with the best matchups," Tosca said. "On nights that (Frasor) is available, he's one of our options."

How ridiculous is it that Tosca gives everybody under the sun the opportunity to close regularly and the one guy who is pitching lights out in relief doesn't even get a shot to be the everyday closer.

I've seen several conflicting reports. Some say he's the closer, some say he isn't. I've already got him and he's active in my lineup, so I'll just sit back and see how often he gets the opps before deciding what to do with him. :-)

Right now, he's the best pick out of the Adams/Lightenberg/Frasor trio, so he should be picked up. Anyone have any more information on this guy? Minor League record, stuff?

I have Frasor and A. Lopez. I bet one of them will be closer within a month.

The trouble with Riccardi and Tosca is that they got into their heads the idea of a bullpen by committee for a year and started making plans around it.

For instance I keep hearing about Adam Peterson being the closer next year. The guy has only pitched in Single A ball and Riccardi has already named him the closer of the future. How can they now go out and sign a number one closer with that hanging out there?

Here is a link to some info on Peterson http://www.gerrymcdonald.ca/peterson.html

It's got to be somebody that they have now and Frasor is as good as they have. I just hope that they don't ruin him by naming him their closer.
