I love Pudge, dont get me wrong & he has improved the tigers, but

If the Season ended today , you think that they would
vote Pudge for MVP over Vlad or Manny ?????

Yes UP TO NOW & up to now Angels r winning the pennant & Tigers are buried in mediocrity

Sorry Jbones, I would vote for Pudge too. He did it out of greed (more money, less chance to win), but I must admit that him going to the Tigers has momentarily turned that franchise around. Rondell White has been good, but the pitching is what is much improved, so you have to give Pudge the credit for the turnaround.

Haha, it was bound to happen sometime.

By the way, yes I agree Vlad will probably win it at the end of the year...the Tigers will probably continue falling to the basement as they have been doing lately.

No slam dunk either way -- it is Pudge by a hair at this point, just my opinion. But don't worry, you and Vlad will be vindicated by the end of the year.

Arguments like this are why baseball is fun, right? B-)

Can someone give me the argument about why Vlad should win over Manny?

Vlad has carried his team--with Guillen--while injuries have hit the Angels of late.

Manny started the season with the team on his back with Nomar and Trot down.

Stats:

Avg. OBP SLG OPS Runs RBI HRs SB
Manny .351 .430 .625 1.055 27 29 11 1
Vlad .346 .397 .603 1.000 41 36 11 1

So, basically, Manny leads in everything he can control--as we know here at the Cafe, Vlad only leads in the two categories that his team controls, Runs and RBIs.

Manny is fourth in the league in OBP; Vlad is tenth.

Manny is third in the league in Slugging; Vlad is fourth.

Manny is second in the league in Runs Created (40.6); Vlad is fourth (37.7).

So why would Vlad get the nod? The 1.5 games ahead in the standings?

I like Vlad better than Manny because Vlad lost Garrett, Erstad, Salmon, Glaus, Eckstein for a little while and Colon has pitched like crap. He's the only guy on the team with a possible exception of Guillen who's doing anything.

Manny is missing Nomar and Trot, yes but he still has great players like Ortiz and Damon around him and his pitching also keeps Boston in games. Vlad has taken a team decimated by injury and made them one of, if not the best team in the AL right now.

So, Ortiz's 10 homeruns and .273 average outweigh Guillen's .315 average and 9 homeruns? Damon is hitting .286-- a lot worse than Chone Figgins.

I'll say again, Nomar and Trot have missed EVERY game this year. And Mueller is now out, Kim has stunk, Lowe has stunk, Pedro is OK...

Glaus hit 11 homeruns in 29 games. Anderson hit .339 in 15 games.

Vlad has done well, but he hasn't carried this team anymore than Manny, for sure.
