Need help at catcher

Postby uanap » Tue Jun 18, 2002 10:14 pm

I have Lieberthal currently as my catcher and he has been more than a little disappointing. I'd love to find some gem out there on the wire but I scoured it and all I found what Ramon Hernandez. He has been heating up as of late, but what you guys know about him? I'm in a classic 5x5 twelve team league so the pickings are slim.

Also, I happen to have Rolen and Burrell in my lineup as well so anyone NOT playing for the Phils could add some much needed diversification. Any advice and or other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

I don't know if you saw the other thread, but is Craig A. Wilson a free agent? Is he catcher eligible?

Yeah I did read it and he is available. Unfortunately he's not catcher available yet though.

Hernandez is on a roll, but I don't expect a significant breakout. Basically, what you see is what you get, and a slight improvement on last year's numbers is about as much as I'm hoping for.

If you're up for a gamble (and he's catcher-eligible), you might take a look at Matt LeCroy. He has a boatload of power and a good eye for hitting; the only question is how much playing time the Twins will give him.

Also keep an eye on Josh Phelps - if the Blue Jays decide to give him a look, he might be decent (with the usual reservations about putting too much faith in rookies, of course).

And also don't forget about Ben Petrick - he's looking pretty sharp in the minors and might earn himself another chance.

I'm afraid there aren't any sure things at the thin catcher position...
