Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The San Diego Padres recalled relief pitcher Rod Beck from extended spring training before Friday's game against Philadelphia.
Beck, who left the team March 8 for personal reasons, saved 20 games and went 3-2 with a 1.78 ERA in 36 appearances for the Padres in 2003.
To make room for Beck, the team outrighted pitcher Eddie Oropesa to Triple-A Portland.
In 13 major league seasons with San Francisco, the Chicago Cubs, Boston and San Diego, Beck has accumulated a 38-43 record with 286 saves and a 3.21 ERA in 678 career appearances.
The Padres also recalled pitcher Dennis Tankersley from Portland after placing infielder Ramon Vazquez, who is suffering with a strained right oblique, on the 15-day disabled list.
