Minor leaguer throws 57 consecutive scoreless innings

Postby Quaker » Thu May 20, 2004 2:40 am

St. Louis Cardinals prospect Brad Thompson broke a 97-year-old minor league record by extending his scoreless streak to 57 innings Wednesday

Anyone know more about his guy? Is he a possible call up for this season, or should we be keeping an eye on him for next year or beyond?

If he is called up this year, could he make a fantasy impact?

he really isn't even that much of a prospect, though of course he is starting to look like one after this. couldn't find much on the stuff he has, but he has a low 90's sinking fastball and just an above average slider. taking that into account he must just have really good control, as his stuff doesn't really stand out at all.

From what I can tell a move up to AAA wouldn't surprise me and maybe a September callup if he continues to pitch well.

Thanks for the article. ;-D

he isnt really a great prospect though this streak has moved him up a little bit. he is a 22 year old in AA. former 16th round pick i think. he is still behind haren, wainwright, hawksworth, narveson, and maybe a couple others so i dont see him getting a call up to the bigs any time soon. i think he was ranked something like the cards 13th best pitching prosepect before the season started. he throws a low 90's fastball with sink and a slider. he is working on changeup.

It's a nice accomplishment, but I can't see him ever being more than a middle reliever.
