randy vs randy (answered)

Postby Tavish » Thu May 20, 2004 1:58 am

There has only been one game in the modern (post 1900) era that feature opposing no-hitters through 9 innings. What two pitchers were faced each other and which one was the winner?

In 1917, Fred Toney beat Hippo Vaughn in 10 innings after neither team got a hit during the first 9 innings.

Accepted as answer by Tavish on Thu May 27, 2004 6:29 pm EST.

That's the only time it's ever happened. Not sure why the title says RANDY VS RANDY. I guess it should have said FRED VS HIPPO :-D

I was writing the question as RJ finished his no-no so figured it was as good as any. Fred vs Hippo was a thought, but figured I couldn't give myself the points for answering it. :P

Side note for those who didn't know, the game winning RBI was driven in by Jim Thorpe (of multi-sport fame).
