Why is Beltran so valued in fantasy? I had him last year, and I loved his steals, but I wouldn't spend a first rounder on him. I'd prefer a guy that can control the game with his bat for my first rounder, preferably a Ramirez, Guerrero, Pujols, Thome, type. A guy that can totally destroy the ball all year. Maybe I'm personally discounting Beltran. I dunno.
While I do think Beltran is vastly the most underrated superstar in the MLB today, and one of the best players, I do not see how you can say his stats are better than somebody like A-Rod or Pujols. Beltran has never even cracked 30 homers in a season while A-Rod maxed out at 56. A-Rod and Pujols beat him in RBIs always and will this year too. The only thing Beltran has on those two is speed and I don't think that makes up for all the stats that A-Rod and Pujols will beat him by. Hell, even Soriano puts up better numbers than Carlos NOW, so that's not to say Beltran is not a future 40-40 threat, which I believe he very well could be.
I know I am 1 of the few but I believe Beltran is at least a top 3 pick if not the #1 overall in roto leagues. He is likely going to go 30/30 this year if not more, will give you a good Avg. and score over 100 runs. True short is a much weaker posistion but I find it hard to pass up on someone who will contribute in every aspect of roto. Just my opinion.
Beltran is not among the top three players in real baseball, but he is in roto. It's all about the numbers, and opinion has very little to do with it. This is something that most fantasy players simply don't grasp. Very simply, he is a major contributor in all five categories. That makes him a very rare commodity. So, as great as a Pujols may be...and I'd definitely take him over Beltran in real life...Beltran is the better fantasy guy.

I actually think Beltran is underrated in real life but perhaps a bit overrated in fantasy. Why is he a better player than say, Soriano?
Homeruns: Soriano
RBIs: close
SBs: equal
Runs: close
Average: equal
and the almighty fact that Soriano is a 2nd baseman and not an OF. Beltran beats Sori in no categories and ties him in most.

Beltran will definitely out-number Sori in SBs this year.
That is what makes me rank him lower. If Beltran could smack 38-40 homeruns I'd easily rank him top 3. But he hasn't even hit 30 yet so why should I put him ahead of A-Rod, Pujols or even Soriano?
