Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Outfielder Marvin Benard was signed to a minor league contract by the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. He will report to Triple- A Syracuse.
Benard was most recently with the Atlantic City Surf of the independent Atlantic League where he hit .361 with six RBI in nine games. He had been with the Chicago White Sox during spring training, but was released when his injured calf wouldn't heal fast enough.
During his nine-year career, Benard is a .271 hitter. He hit only .197 in 46 games with the San Francisco Giants last season.
