Is he for real? I don't know of too many pitchers that reach their prime at 34. He's had two very impressive starts, but usually these flash in the pan starters can't keep it up. Any reason as to why Alvarez might be different?
Actually, he is for real, and not much of a flash-in-the-pan, at that. Was an All-Star for the White Sox in 94, got a big-bucks free agent deal with Tampa in '96, then threw out his shoulder and had major surgery. Missed two years. Came back with rough season at Tampa, then signed with LA. Lost some velocity but gained movement on all his pitches. Has gone 6-1 with 1.65 ERA over last 10 starts dating to last season.
What we seem to have is a once highly regarded hard-thrower who has refined his style and matured since a nasty injury. Enjoy the ride if you can climb aboard.

Yes, I was able to pick him up. Thanks for all the background info.
yeah, he's been great for quite a while now. i'm not really sure why LA put lima in the rotation before him. i am trying to pull of a 2 for 1 trade to clear the roster space for him now.

Nice post....
Useless Trivia of the day
England's Worcester Canoe Club set the world record for paddling a hand-propelled bathtub. The 25 man team covered a distance of 55 miles, 425 yards in 24 hours on September 28 and 29, 1979.
He certainly seems for real to me. I had him on a bunch of my teams late last season and snatched him up in almost all of my leagues this year a week or so ago and hope for more of the same from him.
