Any reason to hold on to Herges

Postby NY Yankees Fan 2004 » Sun May 16, 2004 6:56 pm

He might be leading my team in saves, but is he worth it. He might be getting me saves, but is destoring my ERA and Whip. I am in last place in those Categories thanks to some people like, Herges, Borowski. Also Riley and Riske (when I had them, but dumped their ASS)

I could get
Adams or Worrell
No other closers are left.

I could also free up a roster spot to pick up Figgins, Victor Martinez or some other FA.

What should I do?

Adams seems to have the gig in Toronto, and I'm thinking about taking him as well. Worell will get some chances until Wagner comes back. I'm thinking that F.Alou is going to give F.Rodriguez a shot at the Closer position in SF.

The answer to your question is a big fat NO! If he is screwing up your ERA and WHIP that badly, which he is, then drop his sorry a**. Winning one category is not worth losing 2. And depending on who your catcher is, pick up Martinez. You could also get him and then trade your top catcher for a closer ;-)

I was gonna ask the same thing. I dont think Herges is worth it when he is killing me ERA and WHIP. But my problem is that i am in an 18 team league, which means there are no closers available. The best RP available is Jason Frasor....but he provides good ERA and WHIP. Would it be worth it to drop Herges for Frasor? My other RP are Nate Field, Jose Mesa, and Dotel.

Since I already posted this, even though its the wrong Forum. Should I just dump Herges.

10 team 5X5 Roto League
(team that I care about most out of my 3 teams)

Hitters
C J. Posada (NYY - C)
1B J. Giambi (NYY - 1B,DH)
2B M. Loretta (SD - 2B)
3B M. Lowell (Fla - 3B)
SS Á. Rodríguez (NYY - SS)
OF J. Pierre (Fla - CF) OF
OF K. Griffey Jr. (Cin - CF)
OF J. Guillén (Ana - LF,RF)
Util C. Lee (CWS - LF)
Util J. Vidro (Mon - 2B)
BN R. Sanders (StL - LF,RF)
BN R. Baldelli (TB - CF)
DL J. Reyes (NYM - SS)

Pitchers
P K. Wood (ChC - SP)
P B. Zito (Oak - SP)
P T. Percival (Ana - RP)
P J. Santana (Min - SP,RP)
P J. Borowski (ChC - RP)
P M. Mussina (NYY - SP)
P C. Sabathia (Cle - SP)
P B. Penny (Fla - SP)
P W. Álvarez (LA - SP,RP)
BN M. Herges (SF- RP)
BN D. Báez (TB - RP)
BN R. Betancourt (Cle - RP)

I could get either:
Worrell
Adams

V. Martinez
C. Figgins
T. Hafner
or repick Patterson of the FA list. (dropped him and he cleared waivers.

I also will not be trading Posada.

why in the world did you drop Patterson? Hes a solid 4th OF, better than Baldelli. There were no closers left, but i dropped Herges for Lidge to help with Ks and salvage my ERA and WHip
