Sabathia is transforming into a pitcher and not just a thrower anymore. I don't think he'll have k numbers like 2001 any time soon. 150k on the year would probably be a realistic ceiling. I'd take the drop offf in K's for the points he's lost so far in his ERA and WHIP.

I think he's just maturing as a pitcher. That happens frequently. In the Minors, pitchers love to get the high Ks, because it gets recognition. Once they have a secure rotation spot, they tend to focus more on just getting the batter out in the most efficient way possible. Unless your name is Ben Sheets, he still loves the Ks.

I do like the trade off. However, K rate is the best indicator for future success, not the only indicator of course. I guess I shouldn't worry until his rate goes below 4.5. I doubt that will happen this year.
