Marcus Giles has a fractured right collarbone and is expected to miss six to eight weeks.
Giles is arguably the Braves' best player, so this is just huge. Nick Green could take over as the regular second baseman, so he's not a bad pickup in NL-only leagues. He's clearly a better option at the position than Jesse Garcia. However, the real solution here would be for the Braves to go get themselves a quality third baseman and shift Mark DeRosa to second.

What the hell are the Braves gonna do now?

Braves pretty much have a triple-A team out there as it is. Laroche,Bettimet,Estrada,Wise,Garcia,Derosa all either rookies or career backup type players. When Drew goes down.. which everyone knows he will again, the Braves will probably do what they've always done... Go after someone over the hill that has a name to them but not much else left in the tank- Think Rickey Henderson who is tryin to get back into baseball. This is gonna be a long year for the Braves. Giles was the sparkplug for this team.

Betemit couldn't hit at AAA. Andy Marte (who's not near ready either) woulda put up a better fight at the big league level.

Still can't believe the Braves did that Drew deal. It was a no-win situation for them -- if Drew does nothing, they don't want him back; if he explodes, he prices himself out of the Braves $$ range.

In turn they give up a guy who you could argue has been the best Cardinal starter this year (Jason Marquis), one of the best pitching prospects in the bigs in Wainright and a decent lefty reliever in Ray King.

Mark Derosa may be the worst fielding 3B of the last 20 years. I can't remember very many worse. I shouldn't say that because their probably have been -- but those guys were hitting 20+ HR's/year -- which helped offset their liability on defense. Hard to put the blame solely on him as they've played him all over the last couple years
