Anyone remember Steve Balboni? I remember when I was little that this older guy told me that he was going to be the next Mickey Mantle... :-?

Sure - Balboni received all sorts of accolades when he was coming up. He did have some pretty good seasons, but nothing like what some folks were predicting...

I do vaguely, I think there is a guy in the cafe named Steve Balboni. His avatar is a signed baseball call of Balboni's, it looks like an '89 Fleer.

Steve "Bye Bye" Balboni...free swinger from the right side, could hit it a mile. Mostly got nothing but air. Based on projections, a bust of epic proportions.

While everyone else around here idolized Brett, Bye-Bye was my guy growing up. First Royals game I ever went to he hit two into the fountain. A legend in my mind.

Balboni is the only guy to be named MVP of a minor league in 3 decades--70s, 80s and 90s. He was like the Russell Branyan of the 1980s.
