Cooperstown baseball HOF

Postby metsfan1969 » Wed Mar 26, 2003 5:52 pm

Went with my sons 5th grade class to Cooperstown today to get a little religion ;-D . We were only there for a couple of hours :,-( but it is quite evident that they are making some nice renovations to the hall. They have a nice little tribute to Ozzie Smith in front. Went to watch the movie and half of it didn't work. Bummer. Saw all sorts of memorabilia. I was explaining who Hugh Duffy was when we saw his autographed ball. Saw a bunch of "Larry Lajoie" stuff. Also a few rooms dedicated to the Negro Leagues as well as Dominicans, Mexicans, etc. All in all a very nice day. I recommend it to all! Oh, and the teacher filmed one of the students interviewing Babe Ruth (well his statue anyway) and I got to do the voice of The Babe. Pretty funny stuff.

For all of you who are far away....please make it to the hall just once in your life. Road trip it, do it however you can. You will be amazed. :-D

Kashikis -- I have no clue about your real world situation, of course, but upstate New York can definitely be a long weekend-type trip, if it's within driving distance. I'm no expert as I'm not from the area, but among the various things to do (if you don't mind some driving around:

1. Cooperstown

2. Howes Caverns (natural underground cavern -- pretty cool)

3. Outlet malls (if it will appease the wife/girlfriend)

4. further south is Hyde Park, which has FDR's home and official presidential library, along with some interesting old mansions if you or the wife/girlfriend likes that stuff)

Don't forget the Finger Lakes! Definitely a beautiful part of the country...

And the Hall is definitely worth a visit. Glad you had a good time, metsfan!
