He was complaining of back spasms but it could also be his groin. Be prepared to not have him in your lineup and he could be heading to the 15 day DL. They wouldn't want to pitch him again too soon or he could end up missing alot more than 15 days.

actually they mentioned them both so it may be a situation where there is no defined closer. They know worrel can get the job done but I think they like him in the setup role and madson is probably capable.

I would think it would have to be Worrell...when Wagner had back spasms earlier in the week, he is the one that took over the closer job for a few days. They also know he is capable as well because of last year.

why the comment about 15-day DL? any indication of the gravity of the groin injury?

I don't know why the DL comment, but its what the phillies announcers said. They were talking about his back spasms and said that he pointed to his groin and if it was indeed his groin he would visit the 15day DL. After that they went on to specualte on who his replacement would be.

sportsline.com wrote:Closer Billy Wagner had warmed up and was ready to pitch in the ninth when he felt a twinge in his left groin, which he wraps every day.

Wagner's status was unknown, but the pitcher said his groin hurts more than it has in years. The Phillies are bringing right-hander Brian Powell to Colorado from Triple-A in case Wagner has goes on the disabled list.

Wagner hasn't pitched since Friday because of back spasms and now the groin. Amaury Telemaco came in to start the ninth and issued a one-out walk before Madson entered

Best I've found so far... :-/

EDIT: His exact words

sportsillustrated.cnn.com wrote:"We'll find out tomorrow," said Wagner, who may go on the disabled list. "I was warm, I was ready to go. I wrap (the leg) every day. You strain it every once in awhile, but I haven't had it like this in a couple of years."
