Posada out after blocking relay with his face

Postby willieroe » Wed May 12, 2004 7:42 pm

Since yesterday, that makes 4 All-Stars (Wood, Pudge, Tejada & now Posada) and 2 good players (J. Williams, Koskie) who have left mid-game because of injury.... :-o

That was a funny play, it didn't look like he was seriously hurt, he got lucky. Posada definitely showed all the kids out there how not to go into second base to break up a double play.

I doubt it will be serious. Amezaga's throw was so bad that it actually hit Posada in the chest and then it deflected up into his face. His nose was bleeding though.

From Rotoworld:

Jorge Posada - C - Yankees May. 12 - 9:40 pm et

Jorge Posada is listed as day-to-day with a fractured nose.
Posada was hit in the nose

Worth picking up a backup catcher for his absence?

Torre just said on the post game report that he's in surgery right now. Sounds like he's going on the DL, they are definately calling up a catcher by tomorrow, though he said.

Torre also said they were hopeful he wouldn't have to be on the DL so there's still some optimism from what I've heard. It would be a big blow to the Yankees if we had to play John Flarhety everyday for a while. :~(
