From an article on RedSox.com

Damon to shave with purpose: Sox center fielder Johnny Damon will shave his beard at a charitable event in Boston on May 21.

Gillette will sponsor the event by donating $15,000 to -- at the wishes of Damon -- the Boston Public Library.

"The beard is going to go, but it's for a great cause," Damon said. "Thanks to Gillette, a lot of kids are going to be able to go to the public libraries and learn more and get into reading. The kids are our future, and Gillette is making that possible. The library seems very happy about it."

My boy gets more Jesus like every day! Go Johnny go!
Rest in peace Mitch Hedberg. I name my fantasy team "Buoyancy of Citrus", in your honor.

So is it just the beard that's going or that hair too?

He could look kinda funny with just the long hair and no beard. :-b

Props to Damon for the charity/grooming decision. ;-D

But he's not stupid, either. He is already on record as saying that he hopes to get an endorsement deal with Gillette.

He should try to get an endorsement deal with Hooked on Phonics. Have you ever heard an interview with him? Maybe I caught him on a bad day but he's no Daniel Webster - hell, he's not even Stabone (remember him?)

Johnny Damon can read 8-o 8-o 8-o 8-o 8-o 8-o 8-o 8-o

oh wait.. I get it now... that must be his fee for having the people at the library help him learn the alphabet. O:-)
