Blue Jays place Speier on DL

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - The Toronto Blue Jays placed pitcher Justin Speier on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday due to soreness in his pitching elbow.

Speier was 1-3 with a 4.32 ERA and one save in 14 appearances. In his last five outings, covering 6 1/3 innings, he had allowed just one run, including a scoreless inning on Monday against Kansas City.

To take the spot of Speier, the Blue Jays recalled right-hander Aquilino Lopez from Class AAA Syracuse. Lopez was 0-1 with two saves and a 2.45 ERA with Syracuse.
