Patterson 2 SB's this weekend

Postby sammyfan711 » Mon May 10, 2004 10:24 pm

Overall, I've been disappointed with Corey's start in 2004. After last year's great first half, I thought he was on the verge of superstardom. Through most of April he was swinging at the first pitch (Shawon Dunston style) but now seems to be able to coax a walk here and there.

Anyone else think he has a shot at a 30/30 season?

:-° It depends on which one shows up. :-b If it's the first half of last year, no doubt. He's a great talent and is still young, so I think in the future he's got a pretty good shot at at least 30HR in that park and the speed should be no problem as he showed this w/e.

not so fast. Corey has gotten 3 steals vs Piazza and 2 vs C Johnson. Not outstanding defensive catchers. I think he only tried to steal one other time and was caught. I think he was picked off once too. Hell probably get you 20 steals, but for this year 30 may be a stretch cause of the knee injury last year.

I honestly can't stand watching him bat, he swings at some of the wildest pitches.(though the drays have a few that hate walks it seems also heh) sorry i know that had nothing to do w/ this thread but i had to get it out. As for Patterson and 30/30 I'd say it is a pretty reasonable goal, though i think he might have a better shot at it next year. injuries like that usually take longer then a year to be 100% again. sure you might feel fine and nothing is wrong, but you don't have the same burst and quickness right away.

other hitters that swing at the most miserable pitches: vlad guerrero
mike piazza

arguably, corey is not in their league...

yeah....except vlad hits them and piazza isn't nearly as bad

not trying to rag on him, since i'm a dray fan we have a few free swingers in rocco and crawford, which at times isn't pretty either. Patterson does have a lot of talent though, which is why if he had just a little more patience at the plate a 30/30 season in the future doesn't seem far off at all to me.
