Two thoughts here.
1) If either of those pitchers were dropeed I would pick them both up.
2) I wouldnt call Santana a reliever currently starting. I would call him a former long reliever transformed into a good starter.

I'd stick with Santana. K/9 is always a good guide.
And Pineiro was in long relief only a couple of seasons ago before he made the transition to starting. So both Santana and Pineiro are former relievers who are now starting. Of course, lots of teams do this with young talent. They bring them up to face ML hitting in a relief role before moving into the starting lineup. Strikes me as a wise idea ...
Or was the claim being made that Santana is better suited to long relief? If so, I totally disagree.

mostly like both will bounce back, but Id rather have Santana. He has a ton of skill.

Thats my take right there.
Santana is learning to be a starter and unfortunately for those of us who drafted him, its been a tough learning process. But he has the ability to be dominant.

pat burrell is going to bounce back.
oh you wanted it to be from the realm of santana or pineiro?
dunno. i wouldnt be surprised if something is seriously wrong with santana, i.e. tipping pitches or arm surgery... this isn't the guy who we've seen dominate in 02-03.
i dont know mucb about pineiro other than vladimir guerrero absolutely owns him. i expect him to have a 4.something ERA when its all said and done.
10-15 wins, depending on how much the mariners suck this year.
