Herges a save?

Postby yankeesrule2004 » Fri May 07, 2004 9:58 pm

How the hell did herges get a save, he came in with bases loaded and got the out but they were up by five. How does that constitute a save?

It is a Save situation, if the Tying or Winning Run is in the Hole. With the bases loaded and a 5 run lead, the tying run was On-Deck, So it was a save situation.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. -Crash Davis

no, its a save situation only if the guy on deck is the tying run.

three ways to get a save.

1. pitcher comes in with at least the tying run on deck (could be tying run at the plate or on base) and finishes the game.

2. pitcher comes in the 9th before any other pitch is thrown and team has a 3 run or less lead and finishes the game.

3. pitcher pitches at least the last 3 innings of the game and finishes the game regardless of the score (as long as his team wins and he is not the winning pitcher).
