The Rangers have announced a 30-year agreement establishing Ameriquest Field in Arlington as the new name for The Ballpark in Arlington.

Too bad the Rangers' highest-paid player didn't get into the bidding. Chan Ho Park sounds better than Ameriquest Field.

I still prefer the name "The Ballpark in Arlington". Oh well, we knew it was coming. They have been shopping the naming rights for awhile now and it could have been worse.

This is kind of an offshoot to the Arod contract. Initially Tom Hicks was hoping that the real estate around The Ballpark would be a very valuable investment. He had anticipated a large amount of investers would want to buy the "valuable" land around The Ballpark to build into a very strong commercial zone. This would in turn, would lead to a bidding war for the naming rights to the stadium. This external revenue that he was hoping for would allow himself to purchase Arod for the contract that he signed for and still not be hampered by having no leverage to sign other good young free agents for long term contracts. We all know how that turned out.
