Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - New York Yankees first baseman Travis Lee is expected to undergo surgery for a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
Lee was examined Thursday by noted sports surgeon Dr. Lewis Yocum, revealing the severity of the injury.
In just seven games this season, Lee was batting only .105. He has two hits in 19 at-bats with two run batted in.
Lee had been bothered by inflammation in the shoulder and went on the 15-day disabled list on May 1.
The 28-year-old veteran hit .275 with 19 home runs and 70 RBI for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays last season. He signed with the Yankees as a free agent in March.
