NL Shortstops

Postby Sir Cheese » Mon Mar 24, 2003 3:51 pm

There are 4 standout SS in the AL... but in an NL only league, who are the standout SS.

Are any of: Renteria, Hernandez, Aurillia, Furcal or Rollins likely to have a break out season, to make them equal to Nomar, Jeter, Tejada and ARod.

How would you rank those 5 NL guys?

Oh yeah, this is a 6x6 league with OPS as the 6th stat

(SB, RBI, R, AVG, HR are the others)

In case that makes a difference for the rankings.

Thanks.

I dont think any of them will rise to the level of the big 4 in the AL, but I do think hernandez will hit more homers in Coors, and I think Aurilia will bounce back and have a better year. renteria is fairly steady. I dont trust Furcal to stay healthy, and rollins is ok. Depending on what you need, would depend on who to take

Don't forget Aaron Boone, he has NL SS eligibility and he'll probably be the NL player closest to the AL super short stops if he can simply repeat his numbers from last year.

As for the other guys, I would go:

Hernandez
Rollins
Renteria
Aurilia
Furcal

Here's my order...

1 - Renteria - He should put together a solid season hitting 3rd
2 - Aurilla - I look for him to bounce back this year with good #'s
3 - Hernandez - Coors factor
4 - Boone - Don't expect him to run like he did last year. Get your stolen bases elsewhere.
5 - Rollins - There is talk of taking him out of the leadoff spot and Bowa has already said that he wouldn't be stealing as much. Plus, he has already hurt his hamstring this year - thats not good for basestealers.
6 - Furcal - Fantasy speaking - all he can do is steal bases and with his current injury situation it doesn't look like he'll be doing much of that.
Swing hard, just in case you hit the ball.
