New York, NY (Sports Network) - Major League Baseball denied a protest filed by the New York Mets about Saturday's game in San Diego.
Mets manager Art Howe was unhappy with the mechanics of Padres reliever Akinori Otsuka in San Diego's 3-1 win. Howe felt Otsuka's delivery made for an illegal pitch, something he brought to the attention of umpires the previous day.
The umpires agreed that Otsuka's motion -- bringing his hands together twice during delivery -- would be illegal with runners on base.
Otsuka pitched one scoreless inning with a strikeout in the win.
