just a note, because there's talk that claussen will get the call. from espn:
May 03 2004 - Brandon Claussen allowed three runs -- two earned -- in five innings for Triple-A Louisville on Sunday. Claussen hasn't pitched as well in his last three starts, but he's still next in line for a spot in the Cincinnati rotation. He has a 3.76 ERA and has struck out 30 in 26 1/3 innings.
well, not exactly a false alarm, my friend. this article mentions the horrendous concept of starting todd van poopel. espn (as quoted above) suggests that claussen is next in line. either way, it appears imminent that haynes has lost his job.
claussen started out lights out to begin the season. he was already being considered for the roster, so i fully expect to see him called up within the month. id be willing to give him a roster spot and see what the kid can do.
You may end up picking him up today just yet
this from rotoworld :
Jimmy Haynes is in danger of losing his rotation spot after another terrible performance last night.
In four starts this season, Haynes is 0-3 with a 10.80 ERA and has yet to pitch beyond the fifth inning. Reds management will meet today to decide whether to finally boot Haynes from the rotation.
update: jimmy haynes has lost his spot...to TODD VAN FRIGGIN' POOPEL!
i guess they're really struggling with the idea of paying haynes to stink in the minors. somehow, stinking in the majors makes more sense to the ownership/management. this is pathetic. i'm furious.
I thought things would get better with Boone and Bowden gone.... guess not.
edit: Upon further reflection, the move may yet turnout okay. Claussen probably truly needs a few more starts in the minors, he's the Reds best prospect and they shouldn't rush him. Van Poppel was once highly thought of. He looked good in relief of Jimmy the other night. Perhaps this move will suprise us.
I guess I just needed some time to get over my disappointment, I'd really been looking forward to seeing Claussen's stuff in the big leagues.
