My friend keeps telling me that abreu in most live drafts was drafted in the 2nd round. From what I've seen in most of the leagues that I'm in, he was drafted 3rd or 4th. I'm talking about an 12 team roto. I'm trying to work out a deal to get him so I'm wondering if Abreu really has that value or not. Of course I know he's a great fantasy player to have with power and speed but is he really worth that much?

I love that one!!!. Seems about right for Bagwell and an absolute STEAL for Abrue.
BTW, Matthew Pouliot of rotoworld.com ranks him as the 9th best OF overall and 22nd best player out of all positions overall. I agree he is around the fringe of top 10 outfielders but not quite 22nd out of all players. I would put him more in the late 30's to early 40's, makeing him a late 3rd to mid 4th round pick.
Dont give a 2nd round pick for him. I just aquired him in a keeper league for Brett Boone. It was the last contract year I could keep Boone so I didnt have too much leverage on position scarcity given Boone's age.
Hope that helps for what its worth.

Interesting...In my 8 drafts, Abreu was taken at
37 (after Hudson),
45 (after Bags),
23 (before Kent!),
56 (before Chipper --serious pitchers runs in this one),
16 (before Nomar...early draft),
40 (before Moose),
39 (after Pierre),
44 (after Bags)
Admittedly, every single one of those drafters was having serious second thoughts for the first 3-4 weeks of the season. I didn't draft him at all, but have gotten him on the cheap in three leagues.
I would definitely stay away from Abreu until he starts stealing some bases. 0 attempts so far this year and he fell from 31 to 22 last year. I'm sure he'll get at least 10-15 this year but it could be he is losing his speed, and without that his value falls dramatically into Raul Ibanez territory.
I am interested in runs, sb's and avg. I drafted Abreu in 3rd round of 14 team 5x5 h2h league and now would like to trade him after his 2 hr game (don't need hr or rbi). I was looking at Crawford, Pierre or Suzuki. Would you trade him straight up for any of them? How would you rank those players? Now that I'm writing this I might want to put this in Trade forum.
I'm also worried that Abreu won't be stealing too many bases this year. The zero attempts is obviously telling. But I don't think it's because of his speed, it's because he's hitting in front of Thome.
out of almost 7,000 ESPN leagues sampled, abreu's average draft position was #47. back to back years of just 20 homers and some declining sb numbers apparently knocked him down a few rungs. even if he were going on average in the second round that doesnt mean he is worth a second rounder now. if he isnt stealing then he is just another 30/100 outfielder, a pretty common commodity these days.
