Salmon placed on DL with aching knee

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Anaheim placed designated hitter Tim Salmon on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with an irritated left knee.

Salmon, who is batting .188 this season, isn't sure when he got hurt. He is 10 home runs shy of 300 for his career.

In 13 seasons with the Angels, Salmon owns a .283 average with 290 homers and 97 RBI.

The move is retroactive to Friday.

In a related move, the Angels purchased the contract of pitcher Matt Hensley from Triple-A Salt Lake and designated left-hander Yoshitaka Mizuo for assignment.
