MUST WIN LEAGUE!!!! Help me out

Postby TenaciousG » Fri Apr 30, 2004 2:01 pm

I can't figure out what's wrong with my team right now. I'm hovering around .500 in an h2h league and I feel like some of my players are definitely underachieving.

So what trades are possible with this team, for example should I trade Ichiro and if so what could I get in return?

Players in bold are the ones causing me the most concern:

C Varitek - BOS
1b Delgado - TOR
2b Vidro - MON
3b Koskie - MIN
SS Cabrera - MON :-t
OF Bonds - SF ;-D
OF Podsednik - MIL ;-D
OF Ichiro - SEA
OF Alou - CHC
OF Griffey Jr. - CIN
OF J. Gonzalez - KC (one outfielder will need to go with Tex coming off the dl)
1b/3b M. Teixeira - TEX

Pitchers - Starting
B. Colon - ANA
J. Vazquez - NYY
F. Garcia - SEA
D. Willis - FLA
G. Maddux - CHC
C.C. Sabathia - CLE
Middle Relief (yes, my league counts holds)
G. Mota - LA
Closers
B. Wagner - PHI
T. Percival - ANA
D. Kolb - MIL

I know it's early to give Cabrera the thumbs down, but one more 0 for 4 and I'm coming to Montreal to contract the team myself.

Scoring: Yahoo h2h
R H HR RBI SB BB AVG OBP
W L SV BB K HLD ERA WHIP

And don't forget if you rate my team I'll rate yours.

i think it obviously depends on what players are available to be picked up on FA, what categories are hurting you in your matchups, and how many teams are in your league. this might surprise you, but i think podsednik can't possibly play any better than he is right now, and i think he's destined to return to normal especially since he's on a dead end team, and his value's very high right now. since you need help up the middle, a guy like loretta could help your time, i live in san diego and see all of his games, this guy can hit. i think griffey's a bust, but you should keep ichiro, 200+ hits .300+ avg., high OBP, lots of SB, he's valuable. kata's not bad at 2B either playing in a hitter's park, he should be available. you also valuable closers, and in my league you can only play two. they don't help much in IP or ERA unless they get lit up in their one inning and that can happen to anyone except gagne, so saves is all they really get. you might want to test the waters and see what you could get for percival, word is his shoulder isn't so great. that's my opinion, good luck.

Hey, thanks a lot, that was really helpful. I picked up Griffey off of free agency, so fortunately I didn't lose any valuble players for him.

And the league is a 10 team yahoo h2h league, and we don't count IP but we do count ERA.

I agree that you are lacking with your infielders. You have solid outfielders and your pitching staff is really strong. IMO, I think that you should trade one of your stronger OF for an equally rated 3B. Or trade one of your OF for 2 average hitting players. Good luck.

dump Juan Gone with Tex off the DL, Vidro and Cabrera will be fine and Koskie was swinging the bat well the last I looked at him this season. Montreal's offense is really really bad so dont expect much in the way of Rs and RBIs from your guys, other then that I wouldn't worry. Cabrera and Vidro are just tarting out slow and will come around, trust me.

Thanks everyone, great advice. I'm worried about the expos, but Vidro and Cabrera should hopefully come around. And Koskie has suprised me this season - a few hrs and a couple stonlen bases. I'm looking in to trading an OF and an INF for a better 2B, 3B or SS. (Although Cabrera should be the stronger of the 3).
