This one should be fun: Will Horacio Ramirez kick Jason Marquis out of the no.5 spot in the Atlanta rotation?

Very Doubtful. But hey, he did get rid of Keith Lockhart finally so maybe Ramirez has a chance.

Has anyone seen Haracio? Is he all stats or is he actually dominant?

Don't you follow spring training? Ramirez has won all of his starts and has only allowed 3 runs in 20 or so innings. Now someone tell me thats not dominant. For those who have never heard of him: The no.5 spot of the Braves rotation is "up for sale": Jason Marquis (who had that spot last year and sucked) is competing against a bunch of promising minor league prospects: Horacio Ramirez (LHP), Trey Hodges (RHP), Andy Pratt (LHP), Jung Bong (LHP) and Joe Dawley (RHP). Ramirez, Hodges and Marquis have the best chance of getting that spot. For those of you who knew that it is useless information but I hope I was able to help some of you understand the Atlanta situation. ;-D

Super GM - I doubt I would call Ramirez's performance dominant. Yes, he has pitched well but lets see how he does when the season starts - thats if he even gets a spot in the rotation.

He's won 4 out of 5 starts. Decent K/BB (12/3), but he has given up 20 hits in 18 IP.

Ramirez is a nice looking young prospect - for now that's all he is though - a prospect. He may just get the nod at #5 - coaches seem to like him according to reports I've seen.

Be nice to stash him away on a reserve list in a keeper league.

Byrd will probably start the year on the DL

Postby titanut » Sat Mar 22, 2003 10:04 pm

and Marquis has looked awful. So it looks like Horacio will be the
number 4 starter til Byrd returns to form. IMO, he may get off
to a strong start-after that who knows.

The latest I've heard out of Atlanta has Paul Byrd missing his first few starts or possibly starting on the DL. What was said of Ramirez is he would move into the number 4 spot and Marquis would be in the number 5 spot if Byrd went down. So to do that math backwards would say that Ramirez would be in the 5 spot when Byrd is healthy. Atleast that is what was said during the game last night.

BTW.... Hampton pitched the best today that I have seen him in a long time. I know 1 start doesnt make a season but I think he is going to have a big year.

I'm rooting for Jung Bong to take the #5 spot over Marquis just so I can make "Atlanta's Bong got lit up today" jokes all year. I literally cannot wait for this guy to make the majors. It would be the greatest thing to happen to baseball heckling since Pittsburgh hired Rusty Kuntz to be their 1st base coach.

Marquis has looked real bad this spring. Byrd is on the DL. So Horacio Ramirez will be the 5th starter. The Braves have already put Marquis in the pen.
