San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Braves Wednesday placed utilityman Eli Marrero on the 15-day disabled list with an upper respiratory infection. The move is retroactive to April 25.
Marrero, who was acquired from St. Louis on December 13, has played in just nine games with the Braves this year. He started the season on the DL with a strained abdominal muscle and is batting a dismal .091 in 22 at-bats.
The 30-year-old Marrero, who spent the first seven seasons of his major league career with the Cardinals, is a career .236 hitter with 44 homers and 190 RBI.
Atlanta purchased the contract of outfielder Damon Hollins from Triple-A Richmond to fill Marrero's roster spot.
The Braves also transferred pitcher Paul Byrd to the 60-day disabled list with an elbow injury.
