the Bosox hold a $17 million(or so) option for Pedro in 2004. He stated a while ago that if the sox don't pick it up before opening day '03, that he wont even make an effort to resign with them. Since then, he has slightly backed off from that statement. Also, the Redsox have an internal rule that they do not negotiate contracts during the regular season. They too are willing to waive that rule in Pedro's case. He has said that if the sox are willing to give him the contract he's looking for, he'd like to finish his career in Boston. Hopefully they will have something worked out soon, but its unlikely an extension will be completed before opening day. The sox are looking to pay him less than the $17 million he would recieve in the option for next year, but over a very long period of time(something like $12 million/year for the next 8 years). As for his health, I believe he will be healthy the whole year and lead them to a championship! Seriously, I think he'll hold up for the first half, miss 5 games halfway through the second half of the season, but come back to "The Real Pedro" form by mid-summer. We'll have to wait and see how all of this actually turns out
