Boston's Burks undergoes surgery

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Boston Red Sox outfielder/designated hitter Ellis Burks underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday.

Burks, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, had cartilage removed from a medial meniscus tear. He is expected to miss six weeks of action.

Burks has played in nine games this season, batting .133 with one homer and one RBI. He has started seven games at designated hitter.
