In defense of my boy, Kearns

All the comparisons to JD Drew are nonsense. Kearns injuries are fluke things that just happen- hit by pitch, busted up shoulder that eventually required surgery, injured on a collision at the plate. JD Drew is the type of guy that would sit out a game with a hangnail. He just has that demeanor about him that he just doesnt care. he doesnt have the fire to play hard. Kearns injuries are a result of hustle plays and now a HBP(something out of his control). Theres no question Kearns has the talent to be an all-star and hes not some crybaby looking for an excuse to sit out. Hopefully, hes just had a run of bad luck that will end with this recent forearm injury.

The fact that i grew up 20 minutes away from Kearns and that he is my favorite player had nothing to do with this post.

I said it before the season started, I said it when the season started and I'm saying it again now. Kearns is overhyped and had a fluke first half last year. He'll never play a full season, he'll never hit .300, he'll never hit 30 homers, and he'll never get 100 RBIs, not this season,not next season, not ever.

Actually of all the things I mentioned Kearns will never do I think never playing a full season is by far the most likely to come true.

My point was, even if he turns out to be a bust, he will likely have a bench spot...and it's hard, even for Kearns, to get injured riding the bench.

In 2002, Kearns hit .315 in 372 atbats. Since he's already done one of the things you said he'll never do, he'll most likely do the rest.

Because the pitching is (or maybe I should say was) bad, they don't win games and as a result the batters don't get any respect either. Hey, I like undervalued players.

its better than talking about the yanks or red sox, thats for sure.

Cincinnatti has always been a love or hate team. Peter Rose, the Big Red machine? All loved or hated, no in between.
