Olerud or Hillenbrand

Postby Rapps5 » Thu Mar 20, 2003 6:35 pm

I'm in a ten team head to head league, and for some reason, John Olereud was just dropped from somebody's lineup and Hillenbrand is a free agent too. I think Olerud is a firstbaseman worth picking up, but Shea is great too. Please tell me whether you think I should pick one of them up, and who I should drop to pick him up. Thanks
Heres my roster:
Catcher: Ivan Rodriguez
First Baseman: Mike Sweeney
Second Baseman: Junior Spivey
Third Baseman: Eric Chavez
Shortstop: Edgar Renteria
Outfielder: Vernon Wells
Outfielder: Ichiro
Outfielder: Vladdamir Guerrero
Utility: Erubiel Durazo
Pitcher: Roy Oswalt
Pitcher: Tim Hudson
Pitcher: Derek Lowe
Pitcher: Odalias Perez
Pitcher: Paul Byrd
Pitcher: Rob Nen
Pitcher: Kazuhiro Sasaki
Bench: Toby Hall, Catcher
Bench: Shannon Stewart, Outfielder
Bench: Orlando Cabrerra, Shortstop
Bench: Carlos Lee, Outfielder
Bench: Brandon Villafuerte, Pitcher
Bench: Brandon Looper, Pitcher

I would Pick up Olerud and start him at your UTIL pos to start the season. I would Drop Looper because I think he will lose his job as the closer early in the year. Just Curious, What pick did you get Vlad?

I'd grab Olerud. He's the best player who never takes off his batting helmet.

Definitely pick up Olerud. He is way better than Hillenbrand. Drop Looper or Villafuerte.

I picked up Vlad with the number three overall pick. If I were to drop villafuerte/looper I would have three possible firstbasemen (durazo, sweeney, and olerud) do you think that is too many? Also, if I were to drop one of them(looper or villafuerte), which should it be?[/quote]

Since the season hasn't even started, I would be most concerned with having as many valuable people on your roster as possible. So pick up Olerud, dump Looper, and try and trade Durazo to somebody who values him -- and get a player who is better than Looper. If you can accomplish that, your manuever will be successful. Like I said, since the season hasn't started, get as many valuable players on your team. Then, you can wheel and deal to fill holes on your team. But Olerud is just too good to leave on the WW -- no matter how many first baseman you have.

I would grab Olerud. When has Durazo ever had 400 abs? Not sure why everyones so hot to dump Looper over Villafuerte? Villafuerte is a 27 year old with 1 career save, everyone is putting their hopes into. Looper proved at least he can close.

Definitely drop Villefuerte or Carlos Lee to get Olerud. Why the hillbilly would you drop Looper over Villefuerte? Padres have bad offence, horrible starting pitching. The Marlins have an electric young rotation and with Juan Pierre and Luis Castillo getting into scoring position, the big bats of I-Rod, Derrek Lee, and Mike Lowell come up to drive them in.
