Pitching scares me

Postby superotto80 » Wed Mar 19, 2003 7:48 pm

I am a die hard mets fan, u might say im a little pessimistic but the mets starting pitching is shaky. Leiter and glavine are old and i personally think galvine is in for a long yr. as for 3-5 well we dont really have any, Trachsel is ok at best and astacio is injury prone. Our bullpen on the otherhand is outstanding. I personally woudl try and trade Benitez for a decent starter and put strickland in the closer slot. Let me know what you think.

I've been saying to trade Benitez for about 3 years now. A starting pitcher would be nice. I have to agree, their pitching is a little shakey. Imagine if it comes through? Would be a great year. I'm looking forward to going to the games.
How has Mo looked? I saw he had trimmed down a little. How has he looked in ST? Wiggington hit a dong today. I'll take 65-20-80-.270 from him. Is that even possible?

I think offensivly we could be great this yr. Mo has slimmed down and supposably has been hitting the ball hard. Burnitz has even been decent in spring training. As far as your #'s for wiggington. i think they are pretty fair. te onyl question i have been seeing is in centerfield, cedano hasnt been tearing up as of late i even heard timo is pushing for the job. let me know if u hear diffrent

You may have a point there however, the stanton/benitez connection could be just as effective as the stanton/rivera connection was across town. This takes the pressure off of the starter to get into the 7th inning and let the quality relief take over.
Leiter/Glavine/Astacio (when healthy)/Trachsel can get us into the 7th most of the time. I think the quality relief will get Glavine and Leiter some wins. Baczik really hasn't proved anything yet and I think we'll see some of Middlebrook this year as well.

i think the pitching is there its just not mature enough yet and most are going into their first real shots at a rotation so they could pan out. you guys are right though it does scare me and since astacio is already hurt that was a pretty big hit to the team from the get go.

also i heard that timo has battling hard for that spot even though its still cedeno's to lose if he doesnt pick it up i think Howe will put timo in quicker than Cedeno would like to believe. mo has been having a solid ST too hitting the ball more cleanly with the lbs he shed in the offseason.

The Asatcio injury is unsettling. It's gonna put added pressure on a staff that will have enough pressure all year.
What do you all think of this trade.
I got Leiter and Huff
I gave Clemens and Cedeno.
Thanks

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.
