Who is your sleeper of the year?

Hitter- Joe Crede, Chw
-- He will also win AL rookie of the year.
Pitcher- Ben Sheets, Mil
-- This is the year he puts it all together and has a great season.
He has always had the talent.

What do you all think?

It's hard to figure what exactly the word sleeper is meant for. However, I will go with Joel Piniero as a pitching sleeper, might contend for AL Cy Young.

As For hitting sleeper, I'll go with Vernon Wells.

Then agian, both of those guys have already shown they can play major league ball. So, perhaps the word sleeper can't apply for them

I absolutely love the discussion of sleepers, because that is where the league is won and lost. This year my sleepers would be Aubrey Huff and Elmer Dessens.

At one point last season I was actually starting Huff over Chipper Jones at 3B, when Jones was still eligible at 3rd. Huff has power and proved he can hit for average. He can even steal a few bases which makes him a 5 tool guy.

Although Dessens showed he can pitch already, I think pitching after guys like Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling will help him. Arizona is a good team and this kid is talented. I say he has a nice breakout season.

I agree with Huff but I also Like John Lackey as a sleeper who not many people are taking in most drafts I have seen.

I agree 110% about Huff. If Tampa Bay can figure out a way to get some runners on ahead of him, he could really increase his RBI numbers, too. There's so much to like about him. And the fact that he has a controlled swing and doesn't K much, yet still hits for power & average, makes me very optimistic. .300, 30 HRs, 90-100 RBIs, is not unrealistic.

I agree on John Lackey being a nice sleeper SP. IF the Padres can produce some offense, I also like all of the Padres' pitchers: Lawrence, Eaton, Peavy, and Perez. Those are some talented arms. They just need the O to step up.

It is hard to call Huff a sleeper. He is being touted in every fantasy mag. Crede also shouldn't be listed as a sleeper.

Everyone knows who these guys are.

Couple people who I call sleepers (AL Only)

Pitchers:
Mickey Callaway. Look at his AAA numbers and his skills set. Hard to pass on this guy. Been named a started

R.Soriano - Same as above.

J. Santana - Look at his numbers from last year. Hasn't been named a starter. Clearly the best pitcher on the Twin's Staff.

Hitters:

Mark Ellis - Will hit a consistant .270-.280, with his past history in the minors he demonstrated good spped and smart base running skills. Look for him to possibly steal 15-20 bags. Could also hit 10HRs.

Chris Woodword - Good to hit .280, 20Hrs.

Matt Lawton - 100% Healthy, .280/.290 20Hr, 20~30 SBs in reach.

callaway? I dont recall him having very good stuff... His aaa numbers last year were good but so were Joe Roa's and I dont think he will be very good.

Please explain your thinking on callaway... im curious.

Most those mentioned are well known and not really sleepers. Dessens isnt a kid, hes 31, who probably wont approach last year.
In deep leagues, Gil Meche won Seattles 5th spot. Rondell White could go 20/20 taking Nevins spot.

i like casey fossum this year, he could surprise with a lot of strikeouts, he struck out 69 in 66 innnings as a starter last year, so if he approaches 200 innnings he may as well approach 200 strikeouts.

for hitters im liking karim garcia, he was on pace for 48 dongs and 150 rbi hitting 300 last season so i wouldnt put 30 dongs 100 rbi and 280 avg beyond him.

i would put phelps there but i think hes too high profile.

How can you say Huff and Crede aren't sleepers, then throw Santana out there as a sleeper? Or Ellis for that matter, who is a lead-off hitter and everyday second baseman.
