he is still hitting the crap out of the ball. one of them fell for a double tonight, but even the other at-bats looked great. fundamentally, he's a solid hitter. it's just a matter of time before it clicks, and that time is growing shorter with each plate appearance.

I dropped him about a week ago when he wasn't playing. A guy in my league picked him up off of the WW and has since had to endure 1 for 21. Before dropping him I tried to trade him, but couldn't generate any interest. In a 10 team league Kearns has burned about 4 of us over the last 2 years. Some guys are like that. Burrell and Konerko started this way last season and they were wrecked for the entire year.

I saw the game today and I didn't think Kearns looked that good. He struck out looking, flew to center, lined out to second, popped out to second, then had a double in the 9th. He looked okay, but I wouldn't say he is hitting the crap out of the ball.
Roger Angell: I was talking with Bob Gibson and I said: 'Are you always this competitive?' He said: 'Oh, I think so. I got a three-year old daughter, and I've played about 500 games of tic-tac-toe with her and she hasn't beat me yet.'
Kearns is not looking good, and he's admitted that his shoulder is still not 100% and occasionally bothers him. He'll eventually come around to some extent, but a big year is very unlikely. Maybe .270, 15-20 HR, 10 SB. That's not much for a roto OF.
One of my "rules" heading into drafts is to avoid guys who had some kind of meaningful surgery. They frequently take a big part or all of the next season to get their groove back. I'm not trying to sound like some kind of genius, but avoiding guys in this situation is a philosophy that has really worked out well.

the K was a bad call. the fly-out and line-out were both hit on the button, and the double was tagged to the gap. no dribblers, just a pop-up that he barely missed. i haven't missed a whole lot of reds' action this year. his first week was dreadful. he almost looked overmatched. in the past week, he's begun to put bat-on-ball and drive it.
that's all i have for you. maybe he'll stink. i wouldn't bet on it. and no, he's not in my line-up.
